Jenna Z Liang is a 15-year-old pianist from Vancouver, Canada, currently in her sophomore year at Phillips Academy Andover in the United States. She began playing piano at the age of four and has since developed into a dedicated and accomplished young musician. With twelve years of daily practice, Jenna has trained under esteemed teachers including Ms. Fafan Xiao, Ms. Cindy Liu, Dr. Sunsung Kong, Dr. Eugene Skovorodnikov, and Mr. David Vandereyk in Vancouver, as well as Professor Jia Ning Kong at the Royal College of Music in London during her time at Wycombe Abbey School. She currently studies with Ms. Isabella Li at the New England Conservatory's Preparatory School.
Jenna has won numerous awards in Canadian and international competitions. At just six years old, she took first place in the Crescendo International Competition, earning an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall. Other career highlights include third place in the Canadian Music Competition National Final (2017), a Distinction prize at the 26th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth (2018), the Canadian Young Artists Standards of Excellence Award (2018), third prize at the USA Musical & Art Exchange International Piano Festival (2019), second prize in the North America Regional Final Round of the Pacific Rim International Music Festival (2021), and her debut solo piano recital in Vancouver (2021). In 2022, she earned her Associate Diploma (ARCT) with First Class Honors with Distinction. Most recently in 2024, she won first place at both the Crescendo International Music Competition and the SSP Sea to Sky International Piano Festival, received the Excellence Award at the URI Piano Extravaganza Concerts & Competition, and claimed third prize at the Enkor International Music Competition.
Beyond competitions, Jenna has performed with professional ensembles including the Rimski-Korsakov String Quartet and Italy's Orchestra Città di Grosseto. She has participated in prestigious music festivals worldwide, such as the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory summer program, the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy, and the USA Musical & Art Exchange International Piano Festival in Philadelphia.
Committed to sharing her love of music, Jenna teaches piano through Andover Lawrence Strings and regularly performs for residents at Windsor Place of Wilmington Assisted Living. In 2023, she co-founded Melody Lab, a nonprofit organization that has raised over $11,000 for children's healthcare and music education initiatives.
Outside of piano, Jenna enjoys classical literature and writing humor pieces. An active dancer, she likes exploring jazz funk and hip hop styles.
